Overview
The Chaplain General’s Office is mandated to offer and implement spiritual and moral support services by upholding national values, cultural, and religious beliefs at national and international strategic Chaplaincy services. The Department is headed by the Chaplain General.
Functions
The functions of the Chaplaincy Department are as follows:
(i) Advise Government on spiritual and related matters in order to facilitate informed decision making;
(ii) Coordinate the provision of chaplaincy services to Defence and Security Wings in order to ensure cohesion;
(iii) Management of the National House of Prayer in order to provide sacred space for worship and foster National unity;
(iv) Provide secretarial services to the National House of Prayer Advisory Board in order to facilitate its operations;
(v) Provide specialist (technical) advice on religious matters to Defence and Security Wings in order to enhance security operations;
(vi) Monitor and evaluate the implementation of chaplaincy programs in order to facilitate timely interventions;
(vii) Conduct research on religious matters in order to generate information for decision making ad knowledge;
(viii) Facilitate capacity building of chaplaincy staff to enable them acquire knowledge and skills;
(ix) Collaboration with Cabinet Office and other stakeholders on State functions in order to ensure orderliness; and
(x) Management of the Defence and Security Choir.
