The functions of the Defence Force Medical Services are as follows:

(i) To provide quality health care in order to maintain a healthy Defence Force and Zambia National Service;

(ii) To effectively manage and develop human resources in order to enhance organizational performance;

(iii) Provision of comprehensive health care services to Defence personnel and their families;

(iv) Provision of health care to the National leadership, guests and civilians;

(v) Collaborate with National and international Organizations;

(vi) Undertake research and development;

(vii) Monitoring and evaluation, supervision, vaccination and prevention of communicable disease programs in Zambian Defence Forces (DFZ’s); and

(viii) Facilitation of Treatment Aboard.
